I have a 2016 Street Glide. I would like to replace the 4.3 with the 6.5 Boom Box. Can I do this with just swapping out the units? No extra harness, line leveler, amps, speakers (I have the 2-speaker setup in the faring) flash the unit, install it on a 2019 or newer bike flash it then put it on my bike, etc.
I know this has been discussed before and I have watched several videos on youtube and I am still not sure.
I am also curious why someone would take the 6.5 off to swap it for an aftermarket model? If the aftermarket version is better should I go that way? The Sony 7000 seems to be very popular. The GTS is too expensive. I would like to have SiriusXM, Bluetooth, voice commands and navigation. I also want to use the handlebar controls.
Again, I just want to swap out the units to add SiriusXM (I know I need the module) and navigation. I hope for plug and play.
If you are installing a 6.5 hu from 14-18 then it is a drop in plug and go install. You may need to flash the unit depending on what flash is in the hu you install.
I swapped out a 4.3 to a 6.5 from a 16 and no harness or flash was required. Took about a hour to install.
On my 19 FLTRX, I did 4.3" to 6.5GTS and added SiriusXM module and WHIM to the 6.5GTS, I needed the dealer to flash for the WHIM but SiriusXM was working before the flash.
