This is the pile of shavings from just one bag.

I told you it would make a surprisingly large mess. I couldn’t believe it the first time I did one. The AHB kit makes it a pretty easy task though. A bit more than just buying rings, but I think they are worth it.

I went with the AHB kit because it came with the template, grill and hardware. I also got it used for less than half price. Kind of a no brainer .

Is it a speaker grill on the picture?

Inside the yellow circle between the bag and speaker mount? Yes.

That's not good. You must close this gap.

Why is that? To keep things out or would it effect the sound? There's a gasket between the grill and the bag and the grill and the speaker mount.

I used a flashlight and turned all the garage lights out. If you put the light around the edges of the grill on the outside and can’t see light on the inside, and put the flashlight inside the bag and can’t see light coming through from the outside then you should be good. If you can see light, water can get in too. I also treated my speakers with Never Wet.

Holes around the speaker will effect sound. Air leak will kill the bass.
