Default 2015 SGS - Audio Upgrade

I apologize in advance as I'm sure this has been discussed somewhere - but I've now read so many different topics that I am confused on what requirements exist.

I am looking to upgrade the OEM Radio setup on the 15' SGS - I've ordered the Soundstream's ST4.1000DB 4-channel marine amplifier, Focal 6.5's and went with Fosgate 6x9's - will I need to Flash the radio still or has there been some sort of fix to this?

It isn;t broken per se. The factory radio comes set up for what speaker/amp the stock bike came with. Since the SGS only came with a radio and 2 speakers, the flash will allow the system to recognize you added an amp and if you're adding an additional 2 or more speakers. So to answer your question, yes you;ll need a flash.

I would say get a BT355 and call it a day for this set up.

And get a different amp. The Soundstream ST is a turd and does nowhere near rated power.

As far as flashes go, they're not done to "recognize" the amp in your setup...especially when using aftermarket components. The flashes open up the rear channels and change the EQ curve. If you're not going to use a DSP, have your dealer flash your HU for 4 speakers and 0 amps just like the Ultra Classic. Then get a front and rear BT355 from Biketronics to tame the EQ curve and make your amp useable.

There is so much misinformation being put in these threads nowadays.

I'm not certain that SS amp will even fit on stock radio tray. Two options here.

1. Biketronics Bt355 for front on street glide flash that's already programmed in
New amp based upon speaker specifications you have. Stinger, soundigital SD800.4, mmats 4110, etc.

2. Have Hd flash for 4/0 (ultra flash) to open up rear speaker outputs. BT355 on front and BT355 on rear. Still switch amps.

Option 2 only does 1 thing for you. Adds fade. That's it. The eq curve is still blah at best but can be tamed with bt355.

Personally, I'd pass on fade, buy 1 BT355, and call it a day. But you're probably going to need a different amp based on size and Bates recommendation of it being a turd.

That SS ST4.1000 is small...3x6x1.5 and is definitely a turd. Not the pn4.1000 that most have used at one time or another.

What speaker models are you running?

That will determine amp specs needed. But off hand, I'm thinking Stinger 700/4 or Soundigital SD800.4S

Stinger 700.4 is only $175 - a damn bargain.

I haven’t seen one for $176 - everything I’ve seen is $300+
