I recently came into possession of an aftermarket fairing for my 99 Road King. The question I have is this: What type of cabling is suitable to run from the battery to the fairing? I want to use something jacketed that has all the conductors I need and I've heard of some folks using the jacketed trailer harness wiring. Is that suitable to run under the tank with the heat of the engine?
Have you had the tank off? Not familiar with the 99 . I have a 09 RK and there's a plastic deal between the back bone of the frame and the tank that the wires run through. I put amp wires and speaker wires through it I would think that if you ran wires under the tank with any wires under there they would be fine. I did that with a '88 Ultra I have and haven't had any heat issues

I haven't yet. I'm in the process of refreshing everything in the cam chest, so that requires pulling the fuel tank. I'm trying to make sure I do everything I can while I have everything apart ;-)
If you don't mind me asking, what did you use for wires? I'll be putting on my fairing hopefully this weekend.

On the RK and Ultra I ran 4 ga wires for the amps and 16 ga speaker wire. I also ran a 12 ga switched wire on the RK for the switched wire on the head unit I've got 6x9s in the lids and 8s in the bags so I ha 8 16ga wires plus the amp wires and switched wire under the tank of the RK.
I have a friend that put a fairing on his Dyna Just the HU and speakers in it. He used a trailer wiring harness to make the fairing removable It's working great for him.

The wiring I was looking at was 14/4 jacketed trailer wire. I figured 14GA was sufficient for the headunit. I'm not sure I'll be adding an amp or not, but the fairing I received has 6x9s.
