Default New Head Unit

On my 2011 Electra Glide, I am replacing the factory Harman Kardon head unit with a Kenwood head unit. I have already upgraded my fairing and bag speakers. I have the interface to maintain my handlebar controls. My issue is the wiring...the head unit had 2 harnesses and the HK amp had 1 harness. I realize I have to connect the new radio’s harness to one of the original harnesses with the aftermarket one. But that leaves me with the other two harnesses. Has anyone had this same issue?

When you say HK amp do you mean your bike came from the factory with an amp? If so you will not be able to use it with any aftermarket head unit. Basically unless you replace your head unit with something like an Aquatic AV or Rockford Fosgate that is made to plug into the factory harness you will need to start from scratch with your wiring (the control module will still plug into the harness though).

If you do have a Boom amp it will have to go and you will need to get an aftermarket amp. Once that is done the wiring is very easy. You just run 8 gauge power and ground to the battery for the amp, plug RCA patch cords from your head unit into the amp, run new 16 gauge speaker wires from the amp to the four speakers, hook up power and ground to your head unit, then connect the amp turn on wire from your head unit to the new amp. I almost forgot after plugging in the control module into the factory harness plug the wire from it into the steering wheel control jack of your new head unit.

I apologize if I have misunderstood your scenario. Let us know if I have.
