Default speaker switch question

I was riding the other day and a new issue popped up, I've got an 07 Ultra, stock head unit, Pyle 2 channel amp and 6.5 Kicker speakers. Worked fine all last year, then the other day the sound would go away. I turn off the speakers, turn them back on via the dash switch and they work again. Then either 30 minutes or 30 seconds later same thing. Volume doesn't matter, I'm running a 3.5mm cord to an iPhone with tunes playing.

Any ideas? I thought it might be clipping causing it but with minimal volume still happened, same with heat from the amp, but it's 50 degrees here and it worked fine last year with the same setup when it was in the 90s.

My 08 did the same. At first (last couple of years) it would lose the sound maybe 3 or 4 times on a all day ride. 2 weeks ago it was dropping sound every 20 seconds, unusable. So I did some research and come to find out this is a common problem with the harman kardon radios 2006 thru 2013. The solution is 1 of 2 things, buy an after market or ship it off to iron cross audio in north Carolina. I sent mine to iron cross and its currently on its way back to me. Either way this is going to cost some money, the after market route will be twice the money and the lose of some or all your handle bar controls. I talk to 3 different people that used iron cross and they were very happy with the service. So far for me they have been great . Answered all my question and were very helpful on what to do to keep it from happening again. check them out " ironcrossaudio.com "

Sidewalkman if you do decide to send your head unit to Iron Cross it might be worth it to have them add front and rear preamp outputs if you think you may be upgrading to a better amp in the future.

Thanks for the replies. I have a buddy with a spare head unit. I can't see sending it to Iron Cross for me, I don't use the intercom, nor the CB so I'd likely get a different head unit rather than get the HK unit rebuilt. Can't believe HD in 2007 didn't have RCA outputs or Bluetooth available. I had an 04 car, came standard with BT.
