Default Question on frequency setting

Hey all,

Stinger SPX700, MMAT 601cx's

Every post I see says to use 80hz as the cutoff, the speakers are rated for 120hz-20Khz. If the speakers are at 120, why would the cutoff be 80? Couldn't that damage the speakers? Why shouldn't the amp be set at 120 cutoff?

Thanks for the newbie question!

IMO. 80 is too low on those speakers but the amount of watts you're throwing at them will help shape that freq setting as well. I'm gonna bet you wind up in the 110-120 freq range when it's all said and done. Now as to your question will it hurt them running them at 80hz.....absolutely not. They'll play there, but not as well as they'll play in their own wheelhouse.
