Default Amp Wiring Help

Not positive sure how to set this up, but I knew this would be the place to ask. Have the Fat Head Sony 7000 setup in 06 Streetglide. Got Polk 652 speakers in fairing only. Have 2 channel marine amp. Was wondering how you would run wiring and setup with what I have. I plan on adding bag speakers & better amp at some point down the road. I work in the oilfield so I'm kinda stuck with what I got till times get a little better. Thanks in advance for any help.

You need to run RCA cables from Sony Front Outputs (the middle row of red and white outputs) to amp inputs (ch 1 and ch 2). Red is the right channel and ch1, white is the left channel and ch2. Run speaker wire from right speaker (+) and (-) to ch1 output (+) and (-). Run speaker wire from left speaker (+) and (-) to ch2 output (+) and (-). Run that blue wire in your picture to the REM on your amp. Run power and ground from your battery terminals to your amp.

Thanks for the help. Shouldn’t be a issue with amp. Came off a friends Streetglide when he upgraded, but he wasn’t sure how it was setup.

Alright, the pics show up here. since you have the Sony 7000 I would put your x-over on the amp to flat and use the Sony to add a high pass filter for 80HZ. Treble and bass boost should be all the way down on the amp, and in the Sony any sort of bass boost or enhancements of any kind should be off, and the eq should be flat. Turn your input level all the way down (counterclockwise). Have your bike running, put on some music, turn the volume up to 38, then turn your input level up until it starts to distort, then back off a little. You should be able to crank it up to 45 without much distortion. 50 will distort.

So why do you suggest setting the gains at volume 38 then claiming you can run volume up to 45 without distortion? If gains are set correctly at volume 38, then going on up to 45 is the quickest way I know to release the Magic Smoke.

OP FWIW, once you set your gains at 38, that should be your new max volume and you should never go past that!!!!

Am I mixing two procedures? I initially set gains by ear and then went back a few days later and used a multimeter to set gains with a test tone, so I could be mixed up.

I guess the obvious disclaimer with speakers should be reiterated, "don't allow speakers to distort."

Not sure what two procedures your talking about. Like SBATES said if 38 is where you are setting your gains at then that’s the max and don’t go over it.
