Default Another XAV 7000 thread

For those who have installed the XAV 7000, has there ever been an issue from getting caught in the rain or any moisture wreaking havoc on this system. Yes there are a ton of threads but I must have missed the comments that will answer this question. I see a ton of people enjoy this over the stock Harley option and this is the only concern that is keeping me from making the move.

I wanted to ride in the rain to test it, but I wasn't able to. I did this to my SONY 7000 https://www.hdforums.com/forum/audio...l#post19119302

I have read two posts on other forums of users having their 7000s fried by water. That being said I have seen several posts here where they survive. I don't know what to think but at the end of the day the manufacturer says not to get it wet.

On a different note those of y'all that have the 7000s in the batwing fairings how easy is it to read in bright sunlight? Over on the Road Glide forums they basically say they can't read it at all in the sunlight, but theirs if pointing up instead of out so to speak.

I can't speak to the waterproofing: but I have the AX7000 in the Biketronics "radio wrap" kit and with the magnetic cover. But I never did ride in rain with it.

I can say DEFINITIVELY that the screen is very hard to read in bright light- and with the sun behind you, it becomes nearly impossible to see anything on the screen. I tried using a matte finish screen protector, and that actually made the screen visibility worse, so I pulled it off at a gas station and tossed it.

The BT install kit is excellent. The magnetic splash guard is a must regardless of which route u go. I have a different HU so can't speak to the HU glare or brightness in the sun.
Not concerned about the rain but I do carry a fancy bike cover w me that's the size of a beer can should I spend the night somewhere and it rains.

Tailwind,

You're right: the magnetic cover is great, and it will stay in place at speed (the few times I tested that on my Ultra Limited). The biggest drawback to leaving it on all the time is that it absolutely prevents you from touching the screen: and that's the ONLY way to navigate around in Android Auto on the XAV-AX7000. So...if you are using AA to play media files off your phone, but want to switch over to Pandora or Spotify and the magnetic cover is in place, you'll have to pull over, remove the cover, tap the app you want to switch to in Android Auto, then replace the cover and roll out. You CAN switch the sources on the Sony between USB, FM, SXM or Bluetooth audio with the left thumb control, but if you switch sources, you leave Android Auto's interface. You can be playing Sirius XM as your source audio, and start Android Auto to display Google Maps or Waze, but you need to be able to use the touchscreen, which is impossible with the BT magnetic cover always installed.

I only used the cover in motion when I was expecting to get stuck in the rain, and took it off the first chance I got once the black clouds passed. Otherwise, I only put it on when I was parked and the weather looked iffy.
