first post here! Looking at replacing my stock 2012 OEM HK HU. Looking at the following three replacements: Aquatic AV AQ-MP-5BT-H, the Rockford Fosgate HU, or the Sony DSX-M80. Im truly looking for Bluetooth and reliability and also maintaining stock handlebar controls. Right now I have to use my Spotify via Aux cord and I have to use my Apple Watch to change the songs and remove both hands from handlebars to do so (not safe). Any recommendations? I can currently eat an Aquatic unit for $150 used from someone in a group. The Sony is sold out everywhere and the Rockford unit is $600+.
I personally would stay away from the aquatics as they have a history of not being dependable. The new rf hu show well and have a lot more f features but are damn $$. Any good single din hu will work with the proper mounting adaptor and thumb control interface. I have had good luck with the Sony mex100 hu and Metra thumb control interface. There are others out there so just do your research and go from there. You will need 4rca preouts depending on whether you wand fade from front to rear. I also suggest a white background on the display as it will be easier to see in bright sunlight. 4-5watts preouts will provide a better base signal for your amp(s) also. Good luck.
