Default Handlebar switch control help!!!

I’ll try to make this easily understood without getting too windy in the explanations if that’s possible
a buddy of mine bought a 2015 limited and whoever had it before he did had butchered the harness for the radio cb etc. to the point that there’s not even a “plug” at the end of all the wiring. He knew of the issues when he purchased the bike. It had no head unit at all. He got the bike super cheap btw. So now I’m helping him with an audio install and we want to have full control via handlebar switches to control a Sony 7000 HU. MY question is this ... how do I connect this metra kit and make it work if I can’t just plug into what’s already there like the kit intended ? I know it’s only a few wires but I’ll be damned if I can find an answer so far. I have the service manual for my 14 limited and I assume the wiring is the same and I’ve located the two plug ins ( on the plastic caddy that sits below where the HU normally sits but what wires do I tap into from there ?)

needless to say we really need yalls help. He spent all of his cash purchasing the bike in the audio equipment and while we are pretty good buddies we’re not such great friends that I can loan him the money to put it in a shop to have it fixed LOL. Need to be honest I don’t want it to get the heat of me at this point. So any help is greatly appreciated thx I’m advance

The best way and correct way would be to go to the dealership and get the missing connector or connectors along with the appropriate pins and get the wiring back to stock. It will be time consuming but it will eliminate most head aches in the future.

If the task is to much for you or your buddy I would take it to a good INDEPENDENT SHOP.

I do agree with you about that being the proper way and so does my buddy. And he says that’s what he will eventually do when he can afford it. But until then we wanna see if we can get the handlebar controls working. Thx for the advice. Any idea which wires should he connected to the metra kit to get him going until he can afford to have it done properly ? Thx again

I would suggest getting a service manual and look at the electrical diagram you will need it for when you can afford the $20 worth of plugs and pins.

Below is a link to the part numbers that you may need to install the OEM plug.

FRENCHIE wasnt to far off the price.

BTW the handlebar controls run off of a canbus signal to the BCM and there is 2 different plugs from the switch packs.
So your quest to MAKE Do with what you have and make it work more than likely Not work as planned.

thx for the advice. He ordered a plug a few minutes ago. I talked him into just not having any audio until he can afford to have it rewired like it came from the factory. He spent about 70$ on parts. I have a service manual but not so sure I wanna even attempt to solder that many wires back together and expect them to all function. Lol
I wonder if I could hook my power vision tuner up to his bike and see if it’s throwing codes. Thx again for the advice. I really felt like this was above my comfort level to start with. Best left to someone that does it for a living or at least has some it before lol

thx for the advice sir. I have a service manual for my bike which is a year older then this bike I’m taking about. As I said earlier I’ve located the connections for the right and left switch packs I was just wondering if that’s the wires that need to be tied into with the handlebar controls from Metra. but I’ve since changed my mind and I’ve decided I’m not fooling with it at all thanks again for the stellar advice
