Hey Gypsye did you ever put one of those SD amps in an enclosed space like a saddlebag and find out how hot it gets? I'm still tinkering with the idea of upgrading the PN4.1000d in my clutch side bag one day, but I am worried about heat. That SS lump hardly breaks a sweat during the summer heat. I have had other amps back there that get hot enough to burn you.
So far I haven't found much that would fit where I want the amp to sit. The Evox 800.4 looks like it might fit but I don't know if it would be that much better than that huge SS for what I am doing with it. I haven't ever had a SS amp to tinker with. The 1200.4 looks to be too big.
I do know they get hot. I put a 1200.4 evox in my bag and the velcro got hot enough to loose its grip. I also didnt like the way i had to mount it. I plan on a J&M amp tray this winter so I can mount the 2 1200.4 evox's on it in the fairing. I currantly am running a mmats 4110 in the bag bridged to 2 faitals rs350's. It has enough power to run them but like most others I want more. That 4110 mounts perfect on the front of the bag with the 10's and compression drivers in the lids. It also doesnt get hot.

Thanks for the reply Gypsye. I'm sorry to hear that about that 1200.4. If seems that no matter how hard I try to get away from that PN4.1000d I can't seem to find anything that will take its place without sacrificing something. I know it's not the cleanest power around but it drives those 2.7 ohm Polks in my lids pretty good. It's more than enough for the ADs in my rear pods as well.
I really don't want to have to split those two sets of speakers up to two different amps. I can deal with one amp in one bag if it don't get too hot. The fairing is slam full, nothing else can go into there. I also really don't want to get RF interference bouncing around in there scrambling my FM reception. I dunno, I had tinkered with the idea of getting a waterproof amp to mount under the tour pak for the pod speakers, but wondered if I would be putting too much on the charging system with three amps (given that the SS isn't too awful efficient).
I'm glad to hear that the MD4110 amp doesn't get hot when bridged. If I get pushed to make major changes maybe I could switch over to that one for the 6x9s (in bridge mode) and mount a waterproof JL amp under the tour pak for the pod speakers. I hate the thought of having to jockey three power wires to the battery because I have lots of other accessories that are non-audio related taking up space in the battery compartment.
Another option is a nvx vadm4 bridged. I ran one of those bridged for my 6x9's in the lids and it fit in the cubby hole on the clutch side of the fairing. Around 200w to each.

Thanks for that info Gypsye. Between the Mmats and NVX which do you like best? Fairing ain't an option for me so it would boil down to whichever I thought was better if I ever made the switch.
Well the 4110 will give you app 110x4 and 340w bridged watts. The nvx vadm4 will give you 75x4 and 200w bridged. It depends on your application. If you just need power for the lids, the nvx will do good. 340w each to a set of 6x9's is too much unless you change those polks.

Gotcha, thanks for the info. My main temptation at this point is to just get a more efficient amp, but I don't really NEED one. They get plenty loud on the SS but until I got the LPF dialed in on the 6x9s that thing would overtax the charging system. I guess in a way I want to plan for the future.
One thing I got to thinking about though is if I put an amp under the tour pak it would stand a real good chance of wiping out the few FM stations I can receive because the antenna cable runs along the bottom.
Thanks again for sharing your experiences, bits and pieces of info like this help us all out.
P.S. I meant to ask does that NVX amp get hot when you bridge it?
