Default Lower Speaker Captive Nuts

I have been having difficulty in reinstalling my speakers in the lowers. The captive nuts keep pushing out inside. I tape them on the inside but the weight of the speakers push it flush to the lower speaker pod or right out the hole. Do you drill the speaker holes out so the thin part of the captive nut slides into the speaker hole mount? I am thinking you have to do that so the nuts don't wind up inside the speaker enclosure. I flipped them around so the large end is out but they don't tighten up that way. Frustrated.

I would get something to use as a spacer under the speaker, just enough to keep it from making contact with the captive nuts. Get the screws started and tighten down until they are making contact with the speaker. While holding up the speaker remove the spacers and continue to tighten the screws until tight.

I've used some double sided 3m tape on the flats between each hole, cut a small piece for each section, then line up the holes and push it tight, the tape holds it to get the screws all started.

Thanks Shogun. That sounds like a great idea.
