Smile Amp Wiring Question

I am a new be at this and have a question to make sure I build my audio system correctly.

If I wire (2) 4-ohm 100 RMS speakers in parallel to the SD 800.4 EVOX amp (set up for 2-ohm 4x200 WRMS) am I running with 50% Head Room or at 0% Head Room.

What I would like to know are the RMS's of speakers (wired in parallel) additive? ex. (2) 4-ohm 100 RMS speakers wired in parallel = (1) 2-ohm 200 RMS load ?

Thanks in advance

I’m kind of confused but two 4 Ohm speakers wired in parallel is a 2 Ohm load on the amp. Not sure that answers your question though.

What speakers are you trying to run off a 800.4?

I have a 2018 Street Glide Special with currently 2 speakers in the fairing.

I have just purchased lower fairings with speaker pods. I want to install GZCF6.5SPL speakers in the lowers and at the same time replace the original fairing speakers with GZCF6.5SPLs. I was planning to use 2 channels only, one would be the right side upper and lower in parallel and the other would be the left side upper and lower in parallel. This should result in the load per channel being 2 ohms which lines up with the SD800.4EVOX - 2-ohms = 4x200W specs. But then I started thinking to much and was concerned about RMS & "Head Room". I was wondering if the individual speaker RMS was additive when wired in parallel. Now having pondered this more I believe my question really shows my newbeness. The load is the load and is in ohms (2-ohms for this install) and RMS is a measure of power the speaker was designed for. Thus in this installation the channel has a 200W RMS and the Speakers on the channel have a 100W RMS and thus the system has approximately 50% Head Room. I think ????

You are over-thinking. Run 4 speakers on all 4 channels. You retain stereo and actually get more watts to each speaker. And honestly, you are going to be a little low on watts for those speakers. Those speakers can safely handle much more than 100w RMS.

A 1200.4 (2ohm) with those speakers ran in parallel and bridged would net you 300 watts per speaker. Just throwing that out there.

And to add to this, since you are running the same speakers in the fairing as the lowers, you can still retain stereo left to right.

Thanks - I was looking at the 1200.4, but was shying away because of the extra cost and not thinking I needed the extra power. The GZ's specs list them at 100W RMS and max of 250W. At 300W RMS per speaker (600W RMS per channel) I was afraid the speakers would be undersized.

Your other option is a 2 ohm 800.4S. That will get 200 to each speaker (parallel/bridged). Size and price are good on it.

I like the 800.4S idea. Do you think SD will be releasing a 2 ohm version of the 800.4 EVOX?
