Good morning, I purchased a 2021 Road Glide Limited recently. I need help in understanding how to start and plan a build.
I have built a nice system on my 2012 Ultra, but this appears to be a different animal.
I have been reading a lot about "flashing" the head unit, line levelers, adding an amp on the tray, stuff like that.
The problem is that I don't understand what it all means, or how to pull all of the information together in one thread.
Can someone please explain from a newbie perspective, on how to take a stock bike with stock infotainment to a new level.
after some time and research, I hired it done professionally, still really enjoy the topic, and there are great guys here, but rather than try and get it done gorilla warfare style, I had an outfit known for cycle audio do the upgrade, kept the head unit, they flashed it.....and when one of the speakers blew, they replaced it for free, no questions asked
with some time and effort, I'm sure you can pull it off, it's not rocket science....just once I realized what it would take, I decided not to bother and leave it to the pro's

Flashing the head unit simply means it flattens the built in EQ curve harley puts in their radios to make the stock system sound "better". When installing aftermarket amps and speakers, you want that EQ curve as flat as possible. That way your amp and or DSP does the work in tuning your EQ.
Line levelers work similarly I think as flashing the HU, with the added benefit of converting speaker level inputs to rca inputs. I prefer flashing the HU and then you can use a pac sni to convert the speaker inputs. Another thing the flash will do is turn on rear speakers or fade if youre adding them to a bike that doesn't have them already.
Now as far as taking your audio to the next level, the sky is the limit. All depends on what you're looking for and your budget. You can spend as little as 500 for a 2 speaker set up, all the way to several thousand for a competition level bike.
