I'm planning to simply remove the outer fairing and expose the antenna. I'll check all connections and verify. While the fairing is off I'll move the bike to an outside location with typically good reception and see what happens with the radio.
I'm mulling over a way to get the antenna cable out of the fairing...and mount the antenna puck, without having it look like a redneck rewire job.
I found the biggest issue with XM on the bike is riders mostly ride in the mountains and have heavy tree cover. No matter where I put my factory antenna (near the vent on the right, or even purchased a motorcycle XM stubby mount) the tree cover or the high side cutout of a mountain road blocked reception.
The module itself should have some kind of buffer built in to accommodate those conditions.
