Im finally getting the intermittent sound cutout on my 13 FLHX with HK sound. One of the speakers is sounding a little rattly too.
I just want a basic replacement setup. Im not paying a grand for another HK head unit but I dont want anything cheesy looking either. I dont need a big amp, or to add speakers all over my fairing or bags. Just some decent sound for cruising without spending what a used Sportster costs. Adding Bluetooth capability would be nice but I figure anything out there these days can do that.
How about repairing the HK HU and adding pre-amp outputs and a Bluetooth receiver? Iron Cross Audio could do all that for $425. You get a warranty, full compatibility with controls, and that stock look and fit. Not much more than a cheap aftermarket HU either. If you aren't looking to add an amp to power better speakers you could knock the pre-amp outputs off and save $55
I would recommend a Sony head unit from fatheadcycles when this comes in stock it’s around 250$ it will maintain handlebar controls as well easy plug and play install. There is a place somewhat close to us that has MMATS speakers and a fairly reasonable price. Then pick up a stinger and or something close to that and you will have about 6-800$ in a pretty good sound system.
I've got an HK on the shelf. I did the Iron Cross upgrade on it. I then bought an Aquatic AV system for ***** and giggles. I also have a Hawg Wired DX with 5.25" speakers. The speakers are NIB. The DX was pulled and I put in their better amp. [Reference Series 400W ]
Check out the Aquatic AV head unit.
It's a great unit with Bluetooth, USB, and Aux availability and a 288 watt built-in amp.
Plug and Play with existing mounting and wire harness.
Also works with you hand controls.
I've been running mine for years with absolutely no problems.
Rugged and very waterproof. https://aquaticav.com/aquatic-av-env...rley-davidson/.
