Well im sure I've read a post about a know issue with this combo and people were removing the inductors.
Just want to see if it's causing some issues at 250wrms some times the speakers drop out for a second or 2 plus I can hear on some tracks some weird sounds like it's bottoming out or similar.
Now I did use a scope meter and made sure HU outputs a clean signal at 100,500,1000hz and a few other freq using dd audio tool box app.
Then didn't tune amp as gains are set at Min as using voltage & ohms law was already at my 300wrms+
Now my sony Hu is set to high pass 120hz (high as it will go) my Dsr1 is DOA and awaiting a replacement.
Now I'm not apposed to Soldering in a cap/inductor inline im no audiophile I just want loud.
Im in Australia and my only car audio show within 100miles said they might be able to order in a kicker Harley system. That's the limit of local support I have.
I had the same problem with my GZ's coupled to a Arc Audio moto720. I ditched the ground zero's and the problem is solved. I switched to Arc cx6 speakers. I also added Mmats 690.4 to the lids....very happy now
I lost a Ground Zero 6.5 competition speaker, twice. Once it started to short and second pair the same side died completely. Tuned as suggested by American Bagger and Garage Bagger recommendations. When they were working well they would part your hair. Still determining if there is a bad left front channel in Soundigital amp or DSP. Checked all connections and wires and threw some Aquatic AV 300W in there for a road trip tomorrow. Hope to find the problem solved!
looks like they are hit or miss. I had one set warrienteed and now one of them is acting up. I have a set of hertz hcx165 that i always reinstall to verify that its the speakers and not the amp so will verify again. if this is the case again I'm throwing in the towel on the gz. great speakers when they work. have them on sd800.4 on their own channels.
I think the reality is, GZ probably ran into some production issues after word got out, and got slammed with orders. I have an early set of 4, that I'm running bridged on a SD1200.4 - 2 Ohm, and these things are rock solid. This set up pounds, and has never skipped a beat. I bought all my stuff in late winter this year, just before they got scarce. My theory is, they must have made some moves to increase production and lost something in the process. I think a few have thought it was the coil, and a swap to one with a higher impedance immediately solved the problem.
If I had a set and was running into these issues, I would immediately contact the retailer and the mfr to review the situation. I would imagine by now, the mother ship is aware of the issue and has a fix or are working on one.
All I can say is, when they are right, there isn't much that can touch them at this price point for overall SQ and range. It does suck however for those that are dealing with this problem.
