The speakers will have the determining factor if the brackets or pods will be needed.

Some speakers sound better with the pods and some sound better on the brackets. The QTS in the TS parameters of the speakers will help determine which to use and have the best out come.

Thanks for the reply, but I don't have a clue as to what that all means.
I have the GZ yellow baskets in the fairing, ad 800.4 bridged, stock head unit with RF flash. Dsp is going in the bike.

The QTS of the the speaker determines if its happy place is in a sealed enclosure, ported enclosure or free air.
0 -.4 qts is happy in a ported enclosure
.4 -.7 is a sealed enclosure
.7 and up is free air.

The QTS of the yellow basket coax is .5 (free air)

In a batwing fairing speaker pod it is .6

So I shouldn’t notice much of a difference in sound quality being in or out of the pods. The pods really not hard to get out, so I’ll try the brackets sence I bought a used set. If they don’t work out the pods will go back in.
I Appreciate the info brother

Being in free air (brackets) you will have to set the crossover a tad higher than if the speakers were in the pods.

if you can tell the difference in sound based on "QTS" (or any of that ****) for a given speaker while riding I'd be very surprised. The brackets make changing speakers in and out very simple. In addition, you don't have to worry too much about basket size (depth). If you put the brackets in it's unlikely you'll ever put the pods back in. They are just too much of a PITA.

Let me premise this with saying, I use the brackets. They make speaker change outs a breeze. I've had many different fairing setups, so it made sense.

The flipside is, most speakers we use sound better in the POD. They seem to play more in line with the specs rated on the speaker. Additionally, they gain warmth in the POD that you may not achieve in the brackets free air environment. The little things make a difference. A speakers sound changes dramatically in the brackets, by just putting the fairing back on.

I've had several different speakers in and out of the POD for comparison, Mmats, Hertz and Arc for starters. They all sounded better in the pod, even while in motion.

If I were to find my end all, beats all speaker for the fairing.... I'd put them in the pods

I tried 2 different set of speakers using the brackets. 1st set was the older Kappa 62.11I. These sound good either in the pods or using the brackets.
2nd was the yellow baskets. In the pods they sound good and loud, using the brackets was a waist of time as they sounded like s[_t. I put them back in the pods and that’s where they will stay.

Just in case anyone wants to know

So what you are saying is that the T/S numbers previously posted are true to your testing with the GZ YELLOW BASKET COAX.

There are no fairy's or pixie dust in this expensive audio hobby. Just some electricity ,electric motors and some wiring.

The T/S numbers the manufacturer post on most speakers will give you a very good indication of how the speaker will work in open air or in an enclosure.

Physics is physics and you proved that with the time you spent testing mounted to the bracket and in the pods.
