Default Cable conversion

Smartphones continue to evolve and separate GPS units are becoming outdated. Has anyone tried to convert the cable & mount to accommodate smartphones (ie USB port to lightning/mini usb)?

Not sure what you mean. Mounting and using a smartphone on the bike is common. There are a variety of good quality mounts (i.e on the handlebar) for phones and typically the USB port on the HU would be used to charge the phone and allow the use of the phone as a music source using an adaptor to the appropriate connector on the phone. The phone would also connect to the HU via Bluetooth for other purposes such as navigation. Many people here prefer using phone navigation (Google Maps, Waze, etc.) over the expensive and outdated maps on the Harley Boom! audio system. What am I missing here?

Agree with Hamah - not sure what you mean. What are you trying to do?

Thanks for the questions.

My 13 CVO has the Garmin/HD Zumo mount. Although I have the handlebar mount for my smartphone, I would like to integrate the phone into the bike while removing Zumo components. In its place, I’d like to put the phone mount up there & make use of the cable that’s already there.

Essentially, update the technology without trading up to a new payment!

may not be what your after or your end goal, and it would not be cheap, but the new GTS HU would allow you to integrate everything and use carplay. but it works great is super clean and does it all without crap bolted all over the bars.

Agree it would be a great upgrade but he has a pre-Rushmore (2013 CVO) so that would be a no-go.

On my 09 I used a Ram Mount for the phone and charged it using a charger going to the cig lighter port and you can either buy a cheap bluetooth adapter or use an aux cable if using the stock HD radio. Not sure what cable they used for the GPS that you want to convert but the 12V port in the fairing works well to keep the phone charged.

Which Zumo do you have, the 665?

On my 2011, I had a Zumo 665 and they installed a mini pin connector in the back of that radio so the audio would come out of my radio. If you have the same thing, then, you could run the plug from your phone out to that same connection in the back of your radio.

In this case, your phone would act like your GPS - you will still need to power the phone - can go from your cig lighter.

OP I have a 2010 Ultra and have sort of done what you are attempting. I got the Metra SaddleTramp Bluetooth module for my stock HK head unit. I then got a basic USB charging module off of Ebay and used a charging cable for it that matches my phone (USB C). Both are mounted in the fairing and out of the way. I just select Bluetooth as the source in my head unit and mount my phone in a RAM mount I have on my handlebar. I plug up the charging cable and am good to go.

I don't really stream audio from the cell service because it is spotty where I live, but I have all my music on the SD card in my phone so that works good enough for me. Google Maps seems to be able to keep itself going between random cell connections. I rarely go anywhere that I need the GPS functionality but when I do this seems to do everything I need.
