OP, to do what your wanting to do take off your outer fairing then unbolt the gps mount and pull the wires back into the fairing. Tie them up out of the way. Splice into the back of the cig lighter plug and add another cig plug to plug USB into. Run USB to the hole that had the gps mount. You may have to add a hole or slot (in the plastic) for the wire to come out.
Get on slip grip phone mounts and find a mount that you can make fit mount.

The photo shown is where I pulled the outer mount off a CVO so the bars didn't. If your handy you could do it in an hour or so.

Thanks to Hoyt 1911A & wfowill for the direction! Sounds like a great winter project. Thanks to all who also provided input.

Default Reviving this old thread since I just went through this.

You can buy a Quad Lock phone mount with an AMP mounting plate and a wireless charging head, costs about $125. The Garmin Zumo dash mount on my CVO has the same AMP hole pattern and it matches perfectly. I just bought a USB to 12V battery cable and tapped to the same power and ground that the Zumo used.

I don’t use the factory head unit for anything so I didn’t worry about trying to tap audio out of the phone. Much easier just to use a Bluetooth adapter in the headphone jack of the head unit if you need it.
