Default More watts ?

Here is my set up now.
2020 Road glide special
Gts hu
Rf flash
Dsr-1
Sd1200.4 amp & speakers 4ohm
Mmats 6.5 up front (switching to GZ)
Hertz spl 6x9 sx690neo in lids
currently each speaker on 1 channel.
question is should I bridge and run the speakers in parallel so they can receive my watts ?
thanks in advance .

yes if you want louder but be careful. I'd probably only do a "3 speaker" setup running the 6x9s bridged and in parallel. you should change the hi-pass to the speakers and up the frequency (say from 80 to 100 Hz or higher) on the DSR-1 or amp (wherever you set that up) or you run the real risk of blowing your speakers.

you should take a look at this thread started by chocker on this very topic. At the risk of sounding repetitive you want to be very careful.

The only way you will be able to parallel the speakers and run them bridged is if the amp is the 2 ohm version.

good point. If it's the 4-ohm version I suppose you could wire the speakers in series and then parallel in an 8-ohm load resistor if needed.

Just a couple of questions. Are you happy with the sound now? Is your setup loud enough while riding at speed? If so then why bridge it? I am currantly running a set of GZ yellow baskets off half of a 1200.4 4 ohm and quite pleased with the way they sound. 200W each is enough for me.

JB I ain't real smart on this stuff but I'm running the GZs up front and the Hertz in my lids and I've done some tinkering.

As Gypsye said 200 watts is plenty for the GZs up front. I am getting by with 150 watts on the GZs in my fairing and I have them tuned with a DSP.

In my case though I had to feed the Hertz like they are my son in a growth spurt. I have an idea I'll throw out to you. How about using the 1200.4 to feed your fairing speakers and add a set of lowers. You already have a DSP so you could tune the lowers to suit your tastes. Then get an 800.4 to bridge for the Hertz in the lids. I'm running my Hertz on a bridged 800.4 with a lower cutoff of about 95 Hz. That does well for me and I don't have to really push the 800.4 very hard so it is happy.

Just an idea based off of my own experimentation.

Thanks for the replies.
I can definitely hear my set up at high speeds.
I have a stinger 700.4 that I was thinking of adding but just wanted to see if I can get more from my current set up.

I have 2 SD 800.4 evox I had to rethink my wiring after months jamming. I have 2 6x9's and a horn in each saddlebag facing the wheel .
The 6x9's was wired for a 2 ohm load SD amp 200w@ 2 ohms then horn on their own channels... so after awhile a light went off in my brain I disconnected the horns and wired each 6x9 to each channel now it's 137w x4@ 4 ohms so now extra 148 watts plus cooler amp.
My fairing & lowers PRV's are wired @ 2 ohms then the tweeters mounted in each grill uses the other two channels
for more adjustments . I won't be wiring the horns up. No dsp installed.

What 6x9's are you running? Nothing wrong with running less amps if you can, but many times speakers dont really sound good or come to life until they get enough watts. That with the fact that you're speakers are in the rear AND facing your wheels, might need more watts by default.

4 Cerwin Vegas v469 I did try the bridge method on one set but they can't handle the power so until I replaced them more powerful speakers I'll keep them wired like this. I been looking at the cicadia 6x9's or might just get a pair of 8".
