Default Audio install help

Hello everyone, this is my first time posting here so please bare with me.

I have a 2020 Electra Glide Standard that I bought a Sony Xav-ax7000 for. Metra Dash kit and all. Got Sony head unit installed, works fine.

I also bought Rockford Fosgate Stage 2 fairing speakers straight from HD. Got them put in but not hooked up.

After days of fiddling and researching, I have no idea how to hook the speakers up. Meaning, they have two metal clips on the back of the speakers for power, and I’m not sure how to connect those to the bike. I didn’t buy a primary amp because Sony says is has a built in amp so I figured why bother. Do I need to buy one in order to be able to connect the speakers?

Thank you for the help and Happy Thanksgiving!

Hooking up the speakers to the Sony deck is pointless without an amp, barely hearing them on the road. Check out the audio section on here as they can help you achieve what you're looking for.

bit strange to get a set of speakers installed but not hooked up, but hey, weirder things have happened @ sea...

IF your H-D supplied Rockford Fosgates are anything like my not supplied by H-D, Rockford Fosgate T1650's
then the connecting speaker wires from your Sony 7000 into the stock fairing speakers, will have the incorrect Positive and Negative terminals (ones large ones small)

All I did was cut mine a couple of inch from the speaker connectors and switch the posi for the negative, resoldered, and they work great!
(also my T1650 are 4ohm, so I had to adjust the settings in the Sony settings from 2 to 4ohm)

Your Mileage May Vary

the bit in the above that bugs me is the "they have two metal clips on the back of the speakers for power"
having just YouTubed - Stage II Rockford Fosgate install, it would appear you have a single amp to drive what is a 4speaker setup (when you buy the entire RF Stage II H-D kit). So maybe the H-D FS speakers are power driven and you've only purchased half the kit..... sorry I've not seen a set before

that is totally inaccurate! I ran my Sony 7000 with no amp, and it was pretty damn good sounding, even at highway speeds, I now run a Stinger amp and the sound difference wasn't that huge. My nephew runs a Sony 7000 with no amp and he's very happy with it, when we ride together, you can hear his music fairly well...

So that I'm sure we're on the same page. Did you buy just the Stage II fairing speakers as shown here (I see you posted your same question there yesterday)? Reading the details section on that page and the installation instructions it does appear that you also require a primary amp (p/n 76000997) and amp install kit. These speakers and amps are specific to the "Harley-Davidson Audio powered by Rockford Fosgate" system and intended to be used with the Harley Boom! audio HUs such as the 4.3, 6.5 GT, and 6.5 GTS.

Regardless, I believe the Standard came with all of the stock Harley audio wiring installed. If so the speaker wire is in or near the speaker pod and will be plug compatible with the speaker. Of course, this still means you need to access the speaker wires from the wiring harness somehow (by splicing into the harness or using the Metra harness perhaps) to connect them to the 7000 speaker outputs.

How did you buy these speakers and get them installed without someone telling you this?

I'd rip them out and return them and get yourself a decent pair of 6.5 coaxials for the fairing that are driven by the 7000. Down the road you could then decide on if you want to add other speakers and/or an amp as required.

Alternatively, rip out the 7000 and install a Harley Boom! HU (the 4.3 and 6.5 GT will also require a flash to allow them to work with the new RF kit) and RF amp.

As it is you're kind of stuck in the middle. The main benefits of that new RF system are found by using the smartphone app which is only compatible with the RF amp via the Bluetooth dongle it comes with.
