Hi all. I did some searching and found a lot of useful information, but I have some questions. I just got a 2007 UC that needs some things here and there. One of those is that the HU is broken and I've been looking into replacement options without breaking the bank as there are more important things that need addressed. I've looked for a replacement HK unit, but they're relatively pricey and so is the repair/mods. My thought is that if I'm going to put money into audio it might be better spent elsewhere. I already have a dash kit (99-9600), handlebar interface (ASWC-1), and a (hopefully working) MEX-M72BT head unit. The speakers do work and sound decent enough for me for the time being. What I'm trying to achieve is a working solution with plans for improvement over time. I wouldn't mind the end goal being a double din setup with wireless AA, but that's not any time soon lol
I have a friend that is willing to part with a SPX700x4. Also looking to get a splash cover and velcro it to the dash kit and one of those 309 custom audio shrouds. I seen that this amp can output 175 Watts RMS x 4 @ 2 ohms. If I install everything listed and that amp, would I be able to use the factory speakers until I have time and money to drop in replacements?Anybody have any opinion on how bad they would sound? I'm currently looking at 4xPA601.cx speakers (2 for fairing, 2 for tp) for down the road. Are there any better or other options around the price of those or cheaper? Are there any other suggestions/options to make the radio work with the factory 2 ohm speakers for the time being? Anything else I should do or add?
Thanks!

Their prices start at $250 and only go up. I would rather put that money into improving the sound as a whole not simply replacing it. If I can throw an amp in there to get me by then I already have an aftermarket HU and amp when I have the funds for speakers.
Install everything you have listed and go ahead and get the new speakers. Your factory ones will sound like crap and will blow the first ride. Go ahead get the adaptors for the front and spacers for the tour pack.
Forget about double din on an 07 unless you plan on changing the inner fairing.

The amp is stable to 2ohms, just not sure the stock speakers will last long with much power. No harm in trying them out. If you can start out lower wattage to them, and see how they perform. I guess...lol
I would stick to the dash kit and the Sony single din marine HU if you already have it. I run a Sony Marine HU on both of my bikes. The Stinger SPX 700 is a great amp. If you have access to that, I would also recommend that.
As for the factory speakers, I guess you could try them, but I don't except it to be a good choice.
As for the Mmats coax, another great choice, especially for the fairing. You will need a speaker adapter for the fairing.
As for the tour pack, the Mmats are going to need a V-twin speaker adapter or spacers there as well.
Appreciate all the replies. Glad to hear the Stinger/Mmatts is a decent budget system. I seen it recommended all over the place here and all the necessary items to install them. Looks pretty straightforward and unless something changes I'll stick to this plan. The double-din is just the pipe dream of things I would do with no budget restraints lol, but yeah I know I have to swap the fairing out for the metra one. Funny enough I just had to do that on this bike to swap out the horizontal and vertical supports as I found out they were broken when I was investigating the issue with my HK unit.
If I'm able to get that amp from my friend, I'll probably slap it all together, calibrate it the best I can, and see how long the speakers last. I also seen a few SD 1200.4 amps in the classified section for around $275 so I could go that route and do the same if this amp falls through. In a pinch I think I could wire the speakers in series and make it work without the amp but that would probably sound terrible.
I don't really care about any of the drawbacks of using the stock speakers with the HU and hopefully an amp, because I plan to upgrade them down the road. If the old speakers blow or sound terrible, then there's not much that I can do except wait to finish the upgrade. If they at least function, then I'll have something to listen to even if it is potato quality/volume. Audio isn't a very big concern to me at the moment. My last bike had no speakers, didn't care to add them to that one.
