I have a pair of GZ's in the fairing and a pair of Hertz in the TP running off a pair of bridged SD 400.4's , hoping to road test this coming week but they will run you right out of the garage , I'll be surprised if I ever run them past 1/2 volume on the interstate.

I'll just add that I'm running 4 GZ's, one set in the fairing and the second in the lowers, on a SD1200.4 - 2 Ohm bridged, @275w each cut at 80hz scoped, and this set up is bullet-proof, if done right. Naturally, if you feed it chit and crank it up, bad things can happen, but you gotta use your noggin.

I'm just pushing 150 watts to my GZs in the fairing but I've got a very aggressive EQ curve on them due to how my ears work. I have some hearing damage that causes certain frequencies to really sound harsh to the point of giving me a headache pretty quick. I'm not opposed to folks pushing big watts, but with my EQ curve I'm a little hesitant to do so myself.

Volume can seem quite loud in the garage, but that can change considerably when you get out on the highway fighting against wind noise, loud exhaust, motor noise, etc. You'll need every bit of those 2 x SD 400.4 amps to compete with the road noise at 80 mph.
I'm currently running my GZ coax in the fairing, and the Hertz Neo coax in the tour pack at 200 watts per channel, and a set of DB Moto G2's in the lowers as well. Currently putting on a few miles to break them all in, until I can find time to toss in my DSP, tune them up, and start pushing them all to their full potential. The GZs at 200 watts on my 12 Ultra, have less volume than my Mmats do at 150 watts on my 05 Ultra with a DSP, and a decent tune.

That's interesting, I wonder how much the exhaust comes into play there. A couple of years ago I ditched the loud exhaust system I had and gained a LOT of sound quality from my audio with that one change. I finally settled on a high flow headpipe with stock mufflers. Still performs well but does away with that loud blast when you get down on the throttle and at high speeds.

At 150 watts tuned by my Arc PSM I have no problems volume wise at any speed with my GZs in the fairing. In the summer I switch to a short windshield and can still hear them fine. Sure I imagine they would have more punch with more watts, but I have more volume than I need as they are now.

Mmats are more efficient then the GZ's at the same power but you can put more power to the GZ'S over the mmats and then they will be louder.

I currently run a DnD Fatcat 2 into 1 on both bikes.
A quiet exhaust definitely helps. I used to run a Supertrapp 2 into 1 on my 05 Ultra, with the Mmats, and you definitely hear your tunes better with quieter exhaust.
The DSP plays a big part in getting the full potential out of any speaker, and any system. I have no doubt that I will have plenty of volume out of the GZ once I install the DSP and tune things up. I've got lots of watts to spare with them currently on a SD 2400.4.
The point being that unless you have the watts to get the GZ rocking, I know I wouldn't be happy with them at 80 mph if I ran less watts than I do now.
On a 150 watts per channel system/amp, I wouldn't hesitate to take the Mmats over the GZ coax.

Don't mean to hijack, but for those of you running pair of bridged SD 400.4's, anyone got a pic of the installation? I'm getting ready to do the same on 13 Ultra. Installing GZs in the fairing and in the rear pods.

Thanks!

How thick of a spacer will you need in the TP Pods?

I guess we'll find out. Pods from June should come in tomorrow. He said he set them up for 6.5 speakers.
