Default CB radio

Just wondering; I am on my third Ultra Classic. Mighty happy with all three. Only complaint is very minor. No way in the world that all three of my bikes have had these factory OEM CB radios that were positively, absolute junk. Three in a row that were and are junk. Have to wonder if Harley thought this was a very expensive joke. Don't start that argument about the difficulties of antennas, swr problems, road interference, etc. Not interested. Owned a Goldwing for a brief period, factory cb worked as flawless as a highway trucker. Not a big fan of the ancient cb world, but if I paid for it I should expect it to work correctly. Come on Harley, three bikes in a row?

I bought my bike in 07, Electra Glide Classic ,added a midland cb, could hear and talk but crappy, swapped to a J&M setup, much better could hear and talk a bit better then about 10 years ago I installed the Harley-Davidson set p like a Ultra and it has been flawless, the quality of communication is great although the shorty antenna makes the range short but with the long whips I can do well. I swapped bikes with a buddy Goldwing and I could hear and talk about the same quality as mine. The key to me was the headset. I only use J&M Elite and the comma and music is nice, I now have a 14 Tri glide and the quality is about the same, no complaints here. Sorry you’re having such a crappy experience with yours.

Good to know that someone is happy with the cb. You are the first rider I have spoken with that has success with this. Through the years, I have ridden with, and discussed this with a multitude of riders . No one else that I have encountered has any positive comments for the cb. I know that there has to be plenty folks that are satisfied with their cb, I just haven't been fortunate enough to ride with any. Good that you had a better experience. Thanks (also, I have always used Harley headsets. Music quality, and rider to passenger coms are great)

Are you using a shorty or a long whip on yours. Anything more than 1/4-1/2 mile depending on the terrain is no good. I do have a high gain spiral bound antenna i use to use when i rode in the hills a lot with the J&M set up and it increased the range a bit but i sold that set up. I still have that wound up antenna in my shop. I use it mostly for close contact rides with the riding club and everybody says i sound just fine and clear..

The CB in my previous 2012 Ultra Classic (came stock in the bike) worked fantastic and worked flawlessly. I was using the HD issue shorty antenna. Great range, clear communication, etc.
There's a couple of groups I ride with that use CB exclusively so I installed a new HD unit in my 2020 RGL...using the same HD shorty antenna. The current set-up does not work well at all?

OP would you care to clarify the issues you have that lead to labeling it as junk?
