I'd like to upgrade my '09 Street Glide audio.
I want to upgrade my fairing only. Can I do that with my Harman Kardon head unit with good results?
I've read here that "box" systems are not the best for sound/money.
Recommendations for speakers/amp would be great!
What are your end goals? Only fairing speakers today or only fairing speakers forever? An idea of budget would help as well.
Hello!
That's a good question, and one I thought about myself.
I don't believe I'll be doing lowers (yes, I put lowers on my S G) or bag speakers, I need the storage space. Years ago I installed a set of J&M 6" speakers. (no amp) It was an improvement, but marginal at best.
. I would like to keep my HK head unit for simplicity, and cost isn't really an issue. GOOD sound IS.
. I will probably do the install myself.

Yes you can use stock HK, as long as it's still running. They are notorious for going out. You will get better sound from an aftermarket Sony or Kenwood.
If you're looking a reliable, good sounding setup, I would suggest an JL Audio Mx280/4 amp and set of MMATS PA601cx's WAY more than the Stinger/MMATS combo everyone suggests. Waste of amp watts and there isn't a much more reliable amp than a JL Mx280.

Thanks so much!
I'm taking notes. The JL 280 is a 4 channel? I don't plan on additional speakers, but the option would be there.
. Is this pretty basic as far as matched ohms etc?
Thanks so much!

Yes it's a 4 channel. I would bridge to amp to speakers.
It's pretty basic, as long as you set the gains via multimeter.
Thank you sir.
I will utilize the HK as long as it's still functioning. Lol
I have seen the same recommended components already. This is probably the route I will go.
I sure appreciate your time in responding to my questions. This sound equipment stuff is like learning a new language. Lol
Mechanicals aren't too mich of an issue for me. I just installed some TW222 (WOODS) cams, lifters, quickie push rods, cam chain shoes and bearings, etc. I've been into my primary a few times making changes there too.
It's another learning experience.
Thanks again.
