Im super paranoid about the water thing since 99 percent of what I do is long distance and run into rain most trips. And of course I saw a bunch of vids where people were saying those adapters are susceptible to leaking. So was trying to find waterproof speakers that mounted right up after cutting the hole with supplied template. Similar to what RF offers.

The exact setup I have (with a Kenwood KDC-X303 head unit) and I am very happy with it!

Called around and talked to a bunch of local audio folks again today. Have a few scenarios running through my head now and would appreciate any insight. You will notice that I'm trying to go budget now since Im only looking for marginal improvement, but will more than likely just gather the stuff and take it to a local shop for install- I wouldnt mind doing an amp and speaker install myself, but the wiring part of it all would require assistance and not sure Ill be able to get that with the 2 and possibly 3 different manufactures involved with this little project.

Onto the scenarios-

Scenario#1 Keep the HK stock head unit and 2 ea. 5.25 and 2 ea. 5X7 2 ohm speakers and get the stinger amp installed right now hoping for enough improvement until speaker and possible head unit swapout later.

Scenario#2 Keep the HK stock head unit and purchase Stinger AMP, recommended fairing speakers, but keep or replace the 5X7 lids to cut down on mods / cost. Question- Existing 5X7 in the lids are boom audio premiums purchased in 2011; Could I leave these in and run these 5X7 2 ohm speakers along with any new 4 ohm fairing speakers to the Stinger amp? If not, would any 5X7 4 ohm work with this existing lid cutout?

Scenario#3 Replace HK stock head unit, Amp and Speakers. Question- I actually like the simple look and functionality of the stock head unit and wouldnt mind keeping it if the Stinger will do a good enough job or is it a "crap in- crap out" scenario where the amp just amplifies what it gets from head and this thing needs replaced? I think one of the folks I talked to today said the stock HK unit was putting out 20 Watts per channel. Not sure if this is accurate, but would mean those 4ea. 2 ohm speakers were seeing around 1/3 of what they were capable of being used at if true. If head unit replacement is a must, any particular ones for 98-13 Baggers? I think Im shelving the idea of changing out the inner fairing altogether for the newer stuff.

Just now looking for marginal improvement and again, appreciate your comments up to this point and any more.

#1 I would not waste my time on 5.25.
#2 yes you can run 4 ohm on channel 1&2 and 2 ohm on 3&4
#3 A few of the guys run the stock HK. I like to stream and Iron Cross will add usb and bluetooth but it is not cheap.

Appreciate all the help getting me sorted out here. Will purchase and install the MMATS myself soon and will more than likely have a local shop install / tune an amp to those.

I called MMATS today and by chance was transferred over to and spoke to the owner for a while. Super cool guy..
