I put the H-D boom audio handlebar speakers on my wife's bike. Her ipod plugs right in and she can hear it going down the highway. But I wouldn't call it "cheap" considering what you get. I spent nearly the same for the audio on my bike (2 6.5's & amp)
But if you want speakers to take input directly from your ipod; I think that if you would find such an animal, good luck hearing it once you get outside of your neighborhood. If you want to run off your ipod and not deal with an amp, your best bet may be to just get a decent pair of ear buds.
