All up and running, spent the last 3 days on and off messing with the equalizer. Little frustrated and disappointed, its loud and sounds pretty good but..... I have a thirty year old Onkyo VSR 535 80 watt amp and a couple of Polk RT8 floor speakers in my shop. Speakers have one 6.5 driver and a tweeter. One of the old drivers was blown so I put one of the oem HD speaker in its place. The new bike system cannot hold a candle to it even when isolating the speaker with the HD speaker. Comparing AC/DC thunderstruck, Frankenstein, Hotel California (hell freezes over), Enter Sandman, and Cody Jinks there just isn't the richness or ump. Get a lot of distortion during very busy parts of Frankenstein and theres a annoying tock sound in Hotel california thats not hardly audible on other systems that I cannot tune out. Also have some 7 year old outdoor enclosed Polk speakers that have been exposed constantly to the elements and connected to the onko via 50 foot+ of 12 gauge wire that has better sound.
Gains or set at 30 to 31volts 1000khz -5 test tone, all trim levels in DSR1 were maxed out(?) crossovers at 70, 12 dcb curve. stuffed poly fil down in the deep slots in speaker fairing pods and covered most of outside with Dynamat.
Hooked up one of the saddlebag speakers with the Hertz 690 in it to the onkyo and it didnt sound any better, sure way underpowered. So I guess its all about the encloures and tuning.
To seal them better, dig out the hole saw and let them breath or live with it? I can hear it at 80 mph with full face though.
