Secondary Amp
Hello All,
I have 2021 Ultra Limited. After purchase in 2021, I Installed the Rockford Fosgate Harley stage 2 system. I presently have Rockford stage 2 speakers in the Fairing and Tour Pack. I recently picked up 2 GZ Yellow Baskets and a SD 400.4. I am looking to install the speakers in the Lower Fairings with the Metra Speaker pods and Install the Amp in the Fairing.I am not sure if anyone else has added an aftermarket Amp to the present setup that I have. The system is pretty good, but I am just trying trying to augment what I have and not start over.
My questions are:
1.What is the best way to tap into the audio signal for the new Amp?
2. Should it come from the Boom GTS Head unit before it goes into Rockford Amp?
3. Do I need a DSP ?
4. Does the Boom GTS need to be flashed ?
5. Would you swap out the upper fairing RF Speakers for GZ, and place the RF in the Lower Fairings ?
Any help/advice will greatly be appreciated
Thank you in advance

#2 yes
#3 Never hurts
#4 Not sure hoiw RF does there system but I would guess it is flashed
#5 Yes put the GZ's in the fairing and anything you do with the RF's you would notice. The Gz's will over power them.
The present system I have, Rockford/Harley stage 2 is very good, relatively speaking of course. The only issue that I have is that it is lean on mid and low bass, especially at speed.
From what I have read and also in videos I have seen on YT, GZ 6.5 Coax is strong at low frequency. Thus filling some of that void that exists now.
I am aware that most get their low end by installing 6x9’s or Subs in the saddlebags. But, I am trying to keep my Limited as close to stock cosmetically.

You state your current system is very good then leave it alone. To do what you want is a rabbit hole most dont have the stomach for. Remember car audio and bike audio are different and getting good bass and mid bass on aa bike is not easy.
Im not familiar with any of the RF system upgrades, but I would guess your HU is already flashed for your RF system.
Unfortunately you have already spent hard earned $$$$ on the RF system, something most of us would have probably tried to talk you out of, but......
The GZ coax at 200 watts, would probably work ok from the lowers, but would probably work better in the fairing at 200 watts per channel.
Not knowing the exact output of your existing RF amps, I would guess they are only 100 watts per channel, which will mean your RF speakers might have a hard time keeping up from the lowers or the tour pack.

I don't know anything about the newer systems but it sounds like the OP is looking into what I did a while back.
The fairing speakers are sort of pointing right at you so they can usually still get loud without a lot of watts. I went with PA speakers in my lowers because I already had all the highs I needed coming from the fairing. I got a DSP and tuned the PA speakers in my lowers to sound warm without piercing vocals. That doesn't really give you "bass" at highway speed but it really makes the music easier to listen to without having to crank the volume up. Less fatiguing would be how I would describe it.
You could have your secondary amp pushing the lowers since they could benefit from the extra juice to blend in well with the fairing speakers. The DSP will allow you to adjust the level of the lowers on the fly so you could get them to match the volume of the fairing speakers at your ears so to speak. That way you could leave the fairing setup alone which might keep things simple for you. That leaves the fader alone to balance the volume between the front and back if you like.
Those GZ yellow baskets you have are great speakers, I just didn't feel like I needed all the extra size and complexity of a coaxial speaker in my lowers. I tried good coaxes in my lowers at first but I felt like the tweeter was wasted considering how I wound up tuning them.
Good luck.
