H-D Sena 50S Puzzle
I had full function of the 20S headsets, but could NOT configure the 50S at the bike.
Updated the GTS and the 50S headsets but this did not correct the problem.
After updating the GTS software I lost intercom function altogether....could NOT solve that.
I basically reset, paired, deleted, reconnected, relearned, and reloaded every possible thing, except one.
I couldn't check the WHIM because I didn't have the correct Micro USB - USB C data cable. I ordered one and put it to work today. Through the Boom Audio Bluetooth Device Manager on my Mac I checked the WHIM and found an outdated version onboard.
I updated it easily via the Device Manager to the latest version v1.1.14 which is actually not all that new. My old version did not support the H-D Sena 50S units. After updating the WHIM I had no real feeling I'd found the answer...figured more disappointment was ahead. I re-paired the 50S to the GTS and went to the configuration settings. Christmas morning!....everything was right there and 100% functional. I ran through every possible setting and made changes to see if they would stick....and they did. But...then I realized I still had no intercom function. WTH....well that's terrific. Now I have another issue to solve.
I backed out to the audio/comm settings and found additional functionality that wasn't there 30 minutes earlier. 'Intercom' was disabled and the vox setting was all the way down. I activated the intercom and reset the vox level...yep...working fine. I suddenly figured out that when I updated the GTS software it reset several things to default values including the intercom. And because the outdated WHIM software wouldn't allow the 50S to interact normally with the GTS, I couldn't see some of what was reset or not working correctly. It took the new software on the WHIM to get things corrected.
So the lesson to self is to NOT ignore the importance of software updates on everything. And by the way, the 50S with Roc-Fos premium speakers produces a PRIMO stereo experience inside the helmet.
A week and a ride after finally getting things corrected: Intercom, nav, Car Play, phone, 50S, XM...everything works exactly as I want. I've tested repeatedly and found no errors or problems.
Thanks.
First May be the confusion caused by the use of intercom in two places on the Boom. The traditional wired headset connections on the bike and directly wireless unit to wireless unit.
I assume the intercom function in the comma of the Boom is the rider to passenger intercom that was previously a wired connection. I just want to Bluetooth or Mesh rider to passenger. That way the comms work even if the Boom is off, for instance both getting ready and are not on the bike yet. I seem to get this functionality by having the intercom in the comms section disabled.
My gremlin is getting the music to lower during a rider to passenger Bluetooth intercom connection. We have music playing, connect via Bluetooth, and the music is totally silenced. It keeps playing but is muted in the headset. Drop the chat connection and the music is unmuted. This would be fine if the music paused, but it continues. We often listen to audiobooks and podcasts on long trips. If we comment during the playback and the playback is muted the audio will keep advancing and we miss stuff.
I believe in the manuals this is referred to as audio multitasking and it specifically mentions the functionality we want. I cant find the proper setting combination to get this to work. I have an open support ticket with Sena as well.
If we connect via Mesh, the audio is playing in the background but lowered. But it does not return to normal levels when we quit speaking and Mesh is an open channel. So others would hear our commentary unless we did a private Mesh channel which adds one more thing to deal with.
Anyone solved this?
I have never tried to do what you're doing, so anything I offered would be a total guess. I STRONGLY recommend you call H-D Customer Care. and follow the prompts to access their audio help people. Yes, they actually do exist and they have helped me problem solve a couple issues. It may take a few calls and they will open a case # for you if requested.
I'm very much thinking your issues are either 1) setting(s) related, or 2) trying to do something the overall system isn't capable of doing. My wife and I pair our 50S units to the GTS radio for comms. Our music or other audio comes from either the radio or my iPhone's music/book files on Car Play. We like to keep things simple and dependable out on the road. Nothing is more aggravating than ongoing audio/comm problems during a ride.
