Default Saving HU memory

I'm about to change my battery and don't want to lose my HU settings in the process. I know I'll need the 9v battery saver harness that plugs into the cig lighter. Is it just as easy as plugging that tool in, and changing the battery or am I missing something?

What headunit? Not sure about factory but a lot of aftermarket headunits have built in memory that saves settings
