quick question it is a stock bike but the stock stereo is not loud enough to be heard at highway speeds....with that being said what is the best way and lowest cost to upgrade stereo for sound without losing quality? I dont wanna put a new head unit in the bike just maybe an amp and if needed two new speakers to match the stock radio with amp in the fairing....i dont want to add speakers any where else on the bike. any suggestions????
Will I be able to keep factory head unit? I really just want it to be louder while driving at highway speeds but dont want the sound to be distorted. Do I just need new speakers or do I need an amp to make it louder and clearer? I am not looking to show the bike just enjoy it while on long rides. Any recommendations would help thank you
An amp and speakers will do what you want, with your factory head unit... the cost is gonna depend on what you buy and who puts it in. I think you will absolutely will need an amp, to increase the volume, and speakers to handle it.
As far as what to use... There are some guys on here that have way more knowledge. It would be important to know IF you can do your own work or not.
You're going to need an amp and new speakers. Yes, you can keep the factor head unit. It may not be the cheapest out there but I can say first hand my upgrade will give you what you want without adding additional speakers to your saddle bags or lower fairings if you decide to get those. I did some research and there were like 3 or 4 dealers at this year's Laconia Bike week and I went with Plex Audio. They installed their Rockford Fosgate STAGE 2 KIT which is a high-performance 2-speaker, 800-watt amplified audio system that includes:
(2) 6.5" fairing speakers (these replace your factory speakers in the fairing) (1) 800W 4-channel amp
(1) amp installation kit
$1,659 Installed. Like I said not the cheapest but not the most expensive. I am not an employee I am one of their customers and I am very pleased and happy with my system. The main reason I went with them is their amp was the most powerful at 800W compared to the other vendors there. Prices from them were either the same or higher and their amps were only 200W or 400W. The amp offered by Plex Audio is capable if you do decide to go with more speakers you will have plenty of power. Good luck and let us know which system and components you decided to go with.
And by all means if they try to push anything Rockford Fosgate besides the Lid cutting kit just walk out the door. If you can do the install yourself you can get a good system for 1000.00
