Android auto support
I have a 21 Ultra. Earlier, there were some GTS software updates that fixed some issues. Now that I have installed those updates and the system is running well, I doubt I would do any other updates.
I keep hearing and reading about Harley - google and AA support. For some reason, I continue to believe that AA is a function of the phone more than the bike. Wife and I updated our android phones the other day. When they transferred the info from my old phone, all went well. Then many of the apps began to update - one was AA.
When I plugged my phone into the bike, AA got reinstalled/activated (the same thing happened in both SUVs). I now seem to have a much more active and fasted AA system. Also, and for sure, the phone is much clearer on both the bike and in my trucks.
As I read more about the subject, there is an Android Auto and a different Android Auto for phone screens. The one that is changing is AA for phone screens. What my reading seems to tell me is - if the head unit, like the GTS or my SUVs have AA, then the AA we are currently using on those units is not going away.
Confusing I know.
You asked earlier if you should upgrade your software. My response might be - why? If the system is performing great now, why bother it. I always keep a backup copy of the latest software I installed - plus the previous one, just in case.
Finally, the maps upgrade is completely separate from the software upgrade. Now from my standpoint, I firmly believe AA is here.
One final comment - for the new Skyline system they kept saying the AA was not available. Word was that Harley and google were not working together - all sorts of stories. Guess what - someone came up with a system that you plug in and not the bile will run AA.
I would just ride and enjoy what I have. BTW, I will be in Durham next month - maybe I will see you.

So what I got from the conversation is that Harley refuses to pay what Google wants to add the AA app to their radios. Harley is trying to pass the blame on AA thinking that were stupid.
And as always, others have found ways around it and AA can be used on Harley's newer radios.
Probably be lucky with the 2024's to see any further updates though.
Previous threads on forums regarding AA support going forward, I made a lengthy reply in one here:

And, from what I've seen, the workaround for the 2024's and using a CarPlay adapter to project AA to the HU is now not displaying correctly. But that's from some YouTube posting.
SO it clearly 'works' regardless of what he said/she said the MotorCo or any other OEM who has "dropped it because Google stopped using the AA app"
I ran a USB Hub solution on many of my bike radios, totally unsupported by the OEMs, but that also gave me the ability to split a USB feed into the radio being used.
...i've also taken my phone, wireless module and USB to the dealer and jacked into a 2024 model and seen AA with my own eyes on the new dash! That ruffled feathers in store I can tell you!
when you find a solution outside of the box, that ISN'T supported, you can't take up any issues you find with an OEM that says "not supported"
I suspect Harley haven't made Skyline OS, its a rebadged dash UI from someone like Volvo, so someone out there has found a way to integrate AA
H-D Marketeers are probably telling the top table that Apple is the future of phones... and they listen
Here's to the Crazy Ones
At the 2016 I/O conference, Google announced that Android Auto would expand from a headend unit-centric solution to a mobile phone-centric solution.
This will let drivers whose cars do not support Android Auto to have a similar experience directly on their mobile phone. For motorcyclists, there’s a similar benefit because Android Auto now can be used on the motorcycle.
In November 2016, Google implemented an app that would run the Android Auto UI on the mobile device.
In July 2019, Android Auto received its first major UI rework, which among other changes, brought an app drawer to Android Auto for the first time.
Google also announced that the app's ability to be used on a phone would be discontinued in favor of Google Assistant's drive mode. (that was 2019!)
Google announced in May 2022 a user interface redesign for Android Auto, codenamed CoolWalk, which aims to simplify the app's usage, and make it more adaptable to screens of different orientations andaspect ratios.
The redesign incorporates a new split-screen layout, where Google Maps can be displayed alongside a music player.CoolWalk was originally slated to launch in Q3 2022.
In June 2022, Android Auto no longer ran directly on a mobile device; the app permitting this was decommissioned, in favor of a Driving Mode built into the Google Assistant app for a similar purpose.
In November 2022, the CoolWalk user interface was released in Android Auto's beta program.
