Default Ohms question

If I have a amp that is 2 ohm stable and have no plans on bridging my speakers, and the speakers I am interested in are available in both 2 and 4 ohm is there any reason to not go with the 2 ohm version and get the extra power ? Sorry if this is a basic or common question.

Match the ohm rating on speakers and amp. 2 ohm with 2 ohm

Just curious, what amp and what speakers and locations of speakers?

Every motorcycle amp I’ve seen that is a 4 ohm amp is also 2 ohm stable. Just because it’s 2 ohm stable doesn’t mean it should run 2 ohm speakers.

Modern solid state amps are more forgiving of speaker load and will usually quote power at different ohms (example). However, if the manufacturer doesn't quote different ohms power specs there may be a reason. The only thing I'd advise against is mixing speaker ohms - that's a sad story due to sub optimal sound. So I'd stay to within manufacturer specs and also not mix speakers say front to back or whatever.

Most of these are class d and the clean power quotes are often outrageous exaggerations.

My amp is a DS18 Ion1600.4, for speakers i am looking at the Diamond MP65 either 2 or 4 ohm. These will be going in the fairing.

I'm running a cicada 1400 amp and I have 4 ohm Arc coaxial speakers in the fairing and 2 ohm Cicada CXX69 speakers in the bags. It's a perfect balance as I don't need more power in the fairing as about 175 watts up front works with 4ohm but I run about 250+ to the rears with 2ohm and I the7 are loud at 80+ miles an hour. I had 4 ohms in the bags but I would lose them at speed. Crossovers are set at 110hz front and 130hz bags. The fade feature does come in handy to have times.

Awesome. How do you like the CXX’s?
the 6.5 and 5x7/6x9 are favorites of mine.

They sound great. I had the ch69 horns but I like these more. I think they're a little more balanced. I've been thinking about putting the cxx65's up front but the arc cx6's have been flawless for 4 years now... if one ever goes bad I'll try the cicadas up front. I think they may be a little too bright though. The arcs have a little bit of a warmer sound
