Unfortunately, I don't have a USB splitter 'yet' as my AA wireless adapter takes up the one in the cubby. I have to get that sorted first.

As far as USB hubs go I use this compact one to keep my flash drive and AA wireless dongle plugged in at the same time. I chose this one because it's so small, but I figure others would work as well.

Great - hey, how is the dongle going. Its getting to the point that I am always using this now.

I am not getting any feedback by plugging it into my splitter.

You know for most of a year it worked great, but every now and then it will cycle through the various inputs. I doni't know if it is my phone, USB drive, AA dongle or the hub causing it. If I just have the dongle or USB drive by itself plugged in it stays on the source I put it on. I might try a different hub to see if it makes any difference.

Just saw this little splitter, wonder if it might be worth a try:

Interesting - that looks like the splitter I am now using.

Also, here is what I have discovered. My dongle seems to last forever on the charge. When I turn the bike off, it shuts down after a short time. So, when I get back on, I have to turn the dongle back on - no problem. As a result, I am no longer trying to charge the dongle from the bike.

Just in case, I have a very small portable charger that can fit inside the cubby. That can be used to charge the dongle or, if needed, the Cardo.

By the way - any chance you are going to the Cumberland MD rally in June

If you install the WHIM, you can get a connection - but one the WHIM is installed, you lose the opportunity to again use the wired headsets and the sound is mono, not stereo. Plus, it appears that Harley is going away from the WHIM.

So, here is what I did - installed a J&M Dongle - part number JBLU-DNG51-14HP. This fits Harleys from 2014 - 2023.

I had to play with it to understand what it does - but, wow, does this thing work.

Once installed, plug and play - it connects to my Cardo system and plays all of my music, directions and everything else from my Boom Box right into my wireless headsets. I have a CB on the bike - you can hear the CB, but you cannot transmit.

I also use Andriot Auto - you can hear those direction in the helmet and well as, if you chose to use the NAV system from the bike. All of this is in stereo. The Cardo remembers the connection, so when you go back to the bike, it connects.

There is a pitfall - this unit runs off of a rechargeable battery. Suppose to last about 14 hours - same as my Cardo battery. So, you can charge the unit when you charge your headset. What I did was put a splitter in my cubby so that I could plug the unit in and charge it while riding.

I understand that this should work with any wireless helmet system. You may have to get your perfect setup and sequence. I know for Cardo, you have to turn the helmets on, let them connect to the phone, turn the bike on - and then turn the dongle on.

Riding season is around the corner and I am excited to see how well this thing performs.
A couple of questions for you about the dongle. I have a 2023 Triglide, an iphone 13 mini and Sena 50R wireless headset. My phone is actually small enough to connect to the USB in the cubby and close the door. I currently have a jumper plug in the harness that the dongle would attach to so that I can use the apple version of android auto which is apple carplay. This allows me to bring up google maps on the bikes radio screen, but not hear the turn by turn directions in my sena headset. As I am not interested in using a wired headset once the dongle is installed, I should be able to extract the two pins that are jumped in my current jumper plug, and add them to the dongle’s plug, mimicking having a mic installed and this would enable carplay.
First question is, what are the dimensions of the dongle? I’m thinking if i remove the foam sleeve in the cubby, I could leave my phone connected to the USB, and still fit the dongle in there with it. If that would work, I believe I would not need another dongle to enable wireless apple carplay. What do you think about this settup?

Hey -you have some great questions.

The dongle is so small that you can easily put in in your cubby. I sort of turn mine sideways and put it on top of the foam.

Next, when John was developing this, we talked about carplay - so, as I recall, he actually put the pins in this plug so folks could get carplay.

I think this would work perfectly for you. Go to JM Audio or search dongle.

By the way - as noted in other post, you still have room in the cubby to put in a splitter. This way you can also use a flash drive for music if you use one.

Let me know how it works out for you.

Don

Don, thanks for getting back to me. I’m going to order one and give it a try.
