Default Speaker Placement Question

My current setup on my 08 Electra Glide is
  • GZ Yellow Baskets in the fairing
  • Cicada CM65.4X's midbass in the lower fairings
  • Soundigital 1200.4
  • Soundigital HKI Mini DSP
I recently purchased a set of Cicada CHX65.4 Pros and a Soundigital 2400.4 for an upgrade.

I was thinking about moving the CM65.4 Midbass speakers to the fairing and putting the CHX65.4 Pros in the lowers.
My logic (or Lack of) in doing this is;
1. Get the midbass speakers closer to my ears so I don't loose as much midbass when I am on the road
2. The fairing will have more air space which may enhance the midbass
3. With the CHX's having horns I should get plenty of hi frequencies to my ears.

So my questions are... has anyone tried this? If so did it make a difference?
Is my logic in wanting to try this flawed?

Thanks for any input/insight you can give.

I have CHXs in the fairing on my '14 and they have strong mid bass, granted I have the speaker pod set up inside the fairing which might be enhancing that over the open fairing style of the pre rushmore fairings, and CXXs in my lower pods. If you ride 80+ and want to hear everything still I would put the CHX in the fairing as thats about all I hear on the freeway but I hear them no problem. I dont think the CMs would sound as good being the primary stage above 65. Your option might sound as good/better cruising around town or in a parking lot

Dont the yellow baskets have lots of midbass already? Why change them

Another idea, although more work, would be to try both location options and see what you prefer at both in town and higher speeds.

Run the CM in the lowers and the CHX in the fairing.
The CHX require more power to get into their happy place than the CM as the efficiency ratings are different.
You will have to do some tuning to get the front stage balanced out but once you have it balanced you will definitely be able to hear all 4 speakers.

I like the Yellow Baskets but got a decent deal on the CHX'x so I wanted to give them a listen. Im definitely a > than 65 rider, so Ill most likely just swap out the GZ's for the Cicada's and leave the midbass's in the lowers.
