I'm looking for a new intercom system for my wife and I. We ride separate bikes and she likes to communicate with me while out riding. When alone, I listen to music off my phone and use it for directions, etc. I'm not interested in going down the WHIM rabbit hole. Just need a really good system for this use that will bluetooth to my phone and another rider or two.
I use the Cardo Spirit HD bluetooth headset. My Garmin XT is my communications center. I Bluetooth phone to stream music, and Garmin apps, to the XT. The XT connects to my headset.
I could use a phone to Cardo setup and not use the GPS if desired.
Cardo has units with a longer range that would suit your needs.
Cardo Packtalk or Freecom systems are your best bet. The sound quality is great for music and the rider-to-rider intercom is very reliable. They easily connect to your phone and to each other.
Were long time SENA users. Weve had the HD branded 20s Evo and 30k models with the upgraded Rockford Fosgate speakers. Originally used with a WHIM on a 17 Road Glide special. Then with a 24 Road Glide Skyline system. My wife rides her own bike with the same comms.
Recently we switched over to the HD branded Cardo Packtalk Edge. Wow, what a difference. For whatever reason the SENA was frustrating. Making a call or getting directions on the bike then trying to hook back up with your partner was terrible. I cant tell you how many times Id hear in my headset, intercom fail, try again later. This Cardo setup just flat out works like youd want it to. The JBL speakers that come with the unit work very well. I didnt think anything could touch the Fosgates but these speakers have the clarity and punch that you need on a bike. Battery life while running mesh on the Cardo is about 12 hrs. Wed get about 10 hrs battery life out of the SENA while running Bluetooth. The mesh would eat it up much quicker. We rarely ran that as it was usually just two of us. I cannot recommend the Cardo Packtalk edge enough. Weve had such a better experience using it versus the SENA.
