Speaker question, re:waterproof?

I will soon be upgrading my system. The install guy recommended JL Audio Marine speakers. My question is, do the fairing speaker have to be marine grade, i.e. waterproof? It looks as though some of you on the forum are running brands that are not. Just curious.

Just my opinion, but unless your the one person that rides and never gets caught in the rain, I would personally do the marine grade. But, its your ride, the non-marine ones that I've heard on a couple bikes, sounded pretty damn good, blew my stock ones away!

They don't necessarily have to be marine. You can find non marine ones that are made of the same materials. I also think marine ones are usually white and more expensive because they are sold as marine use.

If there is the possibility of getting caught in the rain (riding / parked). As careful as you can be, washing you bike will get water on the speakers....I recommend marine grade...JMO...the above poster has a point too as far as the sales marketing of the speakers.
