Default is there and amp or just head unit powered?

Hi guys, I have an 05 electra glide screamin eagle I just got about two weeks ago. I am loving it. I just decided I wanted to change the OEM CD headunit to something different. I would like to know if that is going to require me to add an amplifier when doing away with oem headunit? I am going to purchase the kit from biketronics that will allow me to keep hand controls and volume control etc.. If I have to purchase an amp I would like to know before I get to deep into this. Thanks in advance.

I believe those are 2ohm speakers so the only issue that you will run into is the radio not being able to handle the 2 ohm speakers as most aftermarket radios are setup to drive a pair (or a couple of pairs) of 4 ohm speakers. If you're going to go the route of replacing the radio, my suggestion is to replace the stock speakers while you're at it. You'll be glad you did if for no other reason than to not have to pull the fairing apart again to change the speakers later on.

your other option is to add an amp like the J&M, Biketronics, Hogtunes, ArcAudio, etc that will handle a 2 ohm load. This option though in my opinion is pointless if you're keeping stock speakers. They're junk and I've always said the very 1st thing you should change on a touring bike is the speakers.
