Default Stereo issues... Upgrade v. Warrantee?

The number 1,2, and 3 buttons on my 2010 Street Glide radio are no longer working and I have 3 weeks left on the warranty.

If I decide to upgrade...

1) What is an adequate to good placement that WILL allow use of the hand controls?
2) I don't care about the security system... Will it be permanently disabled?

Thanks,

Carl

Biketronics and HawgWired sell radio kits that allows the use of the stock controls.

the radio does not affect the security system.
If I were you I'd just get it warrantied. when it fails again, then replace it with something aftermarket. That is unless you're looking for other features such as pre-amp outputs, etc.

no aftermarket radio itself will allow you to keep hand-controls without the addition of a kit from one of the various manufactures. Biketronics makes a great kit (i use it for my sony radio on my 09 ultra) that plugs into the back of various manufacturer radios (check with biketronics for compatibility) and retains hand controls.

Thanks for the input. I wasn't sure on the security system until I double-checked the manual and saw that the #s for the code appear on the odometer and that the radio buttons have nothing to do with setting the code.

I did see the aftermarket accessories used to adapt aftermarket stereos to the hand controls. That's good to know should my stereo fail in the future, because there are numerous aftermarket options. For now, I've been happy enough (for me, anyway) with the stock head unit and the upgraded "boom" speakers.

Again, thanks for the input. I'll make it to the dealership next week or two to get the warranty process started.
