Default Dirty CD player

My 07 Ultra with stock radio/CD/CB. I tend to play a couple CDs a lot and they are wearing out fast. They are failing/skipping due to a lot of scratching on the disks. I thought of getting a cleaning disk from Wal-Mart but the only one I found there said not to use them on basic CD players for some reason....? I'm sure it's on here somewhere already but my searches show up nothing. So what is the best way to clean the CD player (not the CDs) on my bike?

Short of taking the drive out of the unit and cleaning the lens with a specific lens cleaner, there really is no good way to do it.
The CD type lens cleaners should not be used in feed rolled type units (like the HK) because the brushes on the disc can cause the CD to jam in the unit.

If the CD player does not skip with the bike not running and a good disc on the drive, the lens is fine. Skipping is usually caused by bad discs, some sort of external vibration issue, or the damper assembly on the drive going bad.

Humm...Excellent info, appreciate the quick and detailed response.

I guess I should plan on taking the radio out the next time I have the fairing off and see if I can get it apart.

What about blowing some compressed air in there? It would be my guess that I would just make things worse.

The dry dusty climate here in New Mexico creates quite the problem for this kind of stuff. On the positive side, nothing rusts.

Blowing air in can actually blow dirt onto a clean lens...
