Default Give a noob some audio advice

I recently acquired my first touring bike, an 05 Classic (not an Ultra). It has the stock head unit and stock fairing speakers. I'd like to upgrade to an amp and 4 speakers. I'd also like to integrate my iPhone in the mix. I've tried researching some threads and most say get a Rockford Fosgate 300x4 and Polk speakers, but I've found out that my stock head unit is rated for 8 ohm (stock on an 05) speakers. Most upgraded systems I've read about use 2 or 4 ohm speakers, but I'd rather not change the head unit if I can help it. I'm leaning towards rear lid mount 6x9 speakers since my tour pack is detatchable. Could someone share their experience so I can get it right the first time?

john.

You are right about the 8 ohm speakers however that won't matter once you put an amp in because the speakers need to be matched to the amp that is driving them not to the headunit. I do not recommend based on my own experiences, the PBR300x4 amp. It's simply not capable of driving any decent set of speakers efficiently, at least not compared to 2 of the PBR300x2 amps or the 4 channel soundstream PN4.520d amp. For the rear lids, talk with dragonfly2000 and he'll get you in the right direction there. I haven't fooled with the saddlebag lids (at least not yet) so I don't know what works well. I'm just not keen on the idea of having a speaker firing straight up where water will affect it, no matter what you do to them. I think a lot of folks are buying the leather lid covers so when it does rain, then can at least cover the speakers.

You are fine to use your 05 radio with any amp that will handle speaker wire inputs such as the RF amps, the SS amps, and many others like hogtunes, hawgwired, J&M, etc.

Cool Ultra, thanks for taking the time to reply. I'll keep researching. Thanks a lot.
