Question, any one have first hand experience with losing high quality sound at high speeds.
I listened to some Focal componet 6-1/2 speakers, never thought I'd ever get that sweet of a bass/low end sound and crisp quality out of 6-1/2. These suckers are expensive, i don't mind the price unless I throw them on my street glide and hit the typical 75mph I ride and wind take's over.
Does anyone know if high speeds with expensive speakers is a futile battle. Can you still get 80%+ of the sound quality and experience waling down the road with high fidelity speakers?
I would think most people are going to agree and say while you are running down the road at 70 mph sound quality drastically changes. I think you tend to miss the lows and highs of the sound coming from the speaker. Good quality speakers can help in this area but I don't think with any speaker you will get inside the house quality sound. I do think speakers can and do make a difference on the bike. In this area I am kind of a believer in you get what you pay for. I am running Focal speakers and probably spent too much in this area. But I can say going down the road at 70 I noticed a huge difference with these speakers versus the Kenwoods I used to have.
Did you go with Focal Coax or Compenet? The Coax are half the cost, I'm going to try to hear those before I make my final decision, but would you say there is a noticable difference in sound quality between the two at 65 to 85mph?

dude, it's a motorcycle! :-)
Anything is going to be an improvement over stock but the thing you must keep in mind is some speakers are designed to be driven (with power) a certain way and anything less than that will probably make them sound aweful.
The Focals, without a doubt are the best out there but at $1800 for a pair of 6.5" speakers, yeah I think not but the fact still remains they'll sound like **** unless they are properly driven with an adequate amplifier.
The J&M rokkers you currently have will sound great when you add the right power behind them. I know, I've had them being driven by the RF amp. That alpine amp is a slight step above stock with a much cleaner power, but it's still very little power.

Totally agree, I have 1800 buck plus Focal's in my bike and even with all the power in the world they can't over come the wind and road noise. But hey they where free so I put them in. If I was paying I would not do it. Focal co- axis yes.

My best new friend! Now can you send me a free pair of those too please.. Actually I need 2 pair, fairing and rear pods please FedEx overnight.
sweet.. really like the pillar mounts.. looks sharp! and the speakers in the lid of the trunk are a nice touch too! That guy/girl must have $10k tied up in speakers alone.
you gonna make me dig up my pics of the 24 12" kenwood subs I sandwiched into Kenwoods Volkswagen Bug project back in oh.. maybe 88' or so... man by the time i got finished with that multifaced box (looked like a finely cut diamond) for that project, I wanted out of the audio industry for good! lol It's one thing having a critic (your customer) to go over your work when you're done but it's something totally different to have Kenwood and their engineers in your shop nit-picking everything to death.

That's my own car, I do car's as a hobby. All speakers in car are focal Utopia, front doors are number seven with a second woofer bi amped. have Utopia number five as center and on rear deck as surrounds. All speakers would add up closer to 20 G's . She also has 640 RWHP out of a 6 cylinder.
The one thing i have noticed on my stock HD sterio and speakers is, when listening to the radio at high speeds the sound quality sucks but if listening to my Ipod or a CD the sound quality is much, much better. why is that, should they all equally suck?
