I ride a 2006 FLHXi. I like my music loud, crisp and clear.. I have had the Hog Tunes, Polks and now the Booms.. Im not happy with any of them.. I have been using a hogtunes amp. I am thinking that I should add a Rockford Fosgate Amp and speakers in my batwing or ARC audio system.. I may consider installing bag speakers but am not sold that they would provide that much benefit.. Your thoughts please... from experience. Thanks
I'm assuming you have a Street Glide since you didn't post your current ride.
I would go for a set in your lowers before bag speakers. That way, all the sound is in front of you. You can get the CVO pods and add some 6.5" speakers. Either use a 4 channel amp to power both those and the fairing speakers seperatly, or a two channel and run them in paralell.
Which Polks, and which Hogtunes amp? I'm running the Polk MM651s and the Hogtunes 70.2, along with the tweeter pod. It really cranks, but wanting more I'm swapping the amp for a PBR300x2. The RF amp is over twice as powerful, we'll see how much difference it makes.
I dont have lowers, so thats not a option.. I really dont want to add lowers.. but I appreciate your input.
OK, well that settles it then. You would have to add bag speakers. I like the look of the Cycle Sounds lids. I could see a Fosgate PBR300x4 with some RF T165 speakers in the fairing and some T1693 in the Cycle Sounds lids. My opinion, of course.
IMHO the only way you're going to get good audio out of just the fairing speakers is to go high-end speakers and good amp. The RF amp is a good one, the SS is another good one. I'd focus more on the speakers than anything. When you get into adding other speakers, then your options open up. Rear lid speakers well, there are varying opinions about these setups but I'm not sold on them nor do I think I would go through all the expense and trouble with this just for "rear fill" cause that's all it will be at highways speeds. Sitting in a parking lot or your garage it will sound great I'm sure; moving down the road - a whole different story there.
Oh and the only way you're going to get fidelity type sound out of that stock HD radio is with either CD or a device that handles MP3s. If you're wanting fidelity and quality, get rid of the stock head unit.
