Ultra, I just pulled the trigger on 4 Polk mm651's from Amazon for my fairing and lower installation. I am planning on tracking down the RF PBR300x2. Will the speakers need to be wired in "series" or "parallel"? Not sure what the diff is but it sounds important. Thanks!

Wiring them in parallel would cause the amp to only see 1.5 ohms. I think you'd be better off wiring them in series to make sure the amp doesn't clip.

You should think about using the Soundstream 4.520 amp instead of the RF. With those speakers the 4 channel Soundstream should be much louder, and the price is about the same.

You missed this part of my statement above sir.
"The amp is stable at 2 ohms so you want to find 2 pair of speakers that you like that are 4 ohm."

If you want to use the PBR300x2 amp, then you'll need to find 2 pair of good 4 ohms speakers such as Hertz, Focal, Titan II, etc. This way you can wire them in parallel to create a 2 ohm load the amp will see. This is your best option for the RF amp.

If you want to move over to the SS amp, then you would use the MM651 speakers and wire each speaker individually to each of the 4 channels of the amp. Because the SGs don't come with the harness for the rear speaker outputs of the radio you can either buy the connector/pins and create your own output harness, buy the HD overlay or iPod module harness, or you can simply use a PAC SNI-35 speaker wire to RCA adapter with 2 rca Y adapters, 2 short RCA cables and plug all 4 of the RCAs into the amp. IMO this is the lesser expensive/time consuming route. If you want to be able to fade from fairing to lowers then you'll need to either create the 35 pin plug for the outputs, buy the overlay or iPod harness + you'll need to have the fader activated at your local dealer.

1.) yes sir no problem there. but here's what I would do which would be a better setup IMO.
  • front and rear high level outputs (speaker wires) from radio to amp high level inputs front and rear. Leave your rear speaker wires connected to the headunit.
  • This will provide for fader control from fairing speakers to lowers which I feel you'll need.
  • Make sure you put some sort of insulating connector on the rear speaker wires so when you take your tourpak off, the wires don't short.
2.) at high level (speaker wire outputs) you cannot tie the front output to both the front and rear high level inputs on the same amp. The radio will not like that at all and will wind up toasting your outputs. If you convert the speaker front outputs on the radio to RCA jacks using a PCA SNI-35 adapter then use 2 RCA "Y" adapters and 2 sets of RCA cables to the RCA inputs on the amp then you can do it this way. Don't ever tie high level inputs together. Bad mojo man..

Thanks for all the help UltraNutZ! Between your posts here and Google image searches for the amp, I think I've got a pretty solid idea of what the wiring will need to look like. I just want to make sure that when I do start splicing I wire it all up in the most optimal way and not just a way that will work thanks to electric theory, but might not be the best setup.

Alright, just ordered the adapter from Amazon. Now I've just got to get everything else. I'm still kicking around the original plan with the DB651's up front and the MM651 in the back as it would realistically cost about the same and upgrade the tour pak as well for when it's on, just indecisive at the moment.

Now you have me way nervous. The PBR300x2 is on its way and so are the four Polk MM651's. Is this beyond redemption??? Thanks so much for helping out those of us that have a hard time spelling "radio"!

You can still use those speakers and amp together, you're just going to need to wire them in series to maintain the resistance above 2 ohms.

Your resistance when in series will be about 5 ohms though, which means you're losing at least half the amps power capability. That's why Ultra recommended the 4 ohm speakers wired in parallel or the SS amp.
