My 2012 SG is with the dealer. They're installing the amp and speakers.
They just called and said the Sound Stream PN4.52OD amp will not fit on top of the factory head unit. Due to the wiring, it will not fit in the fairing.
The suggestion is to install it in the saddlebag.
I really don't want to screw up my saddlebags. I worry about heat and losing space within the bag.
Is anyone running the amp inside the saddlebag? I don't have to many options here. Either return the amp and get a new one or have it installed inside the bag. I want to know if there's any problem running an amp inside of my bag. The dealer says no, they install them all of them time. I will have to supply the audio wire--they have the mounting bracket in stock.
got mine in the fairing, just have to uhook the tabs that hold the wires on each side of the radio and slide the amp in.you cant hook the tabs up but the wire will be fine, they want go anywhere.
There's got to be a stereo shop near you that does bike installs. Dealers, can't think outside the box. Take the time to get it right or you won't be happy, or at least I wouldn't. You know the amp will fit because of all the guy's on here who have done it! Anyway there's no problem with installing that amp in your bag other than taking up some bag space.

I know it can fit. I know it's a tight fit but for sake of liability, the dealer is not going to do an install where there's a possibility that it could slip out and then they're on the hook. Every decision they make will be conservative.
I've calmed down and not so angry anymore. I'll have them install the amp in the saddlebag. It'll just be against the side wall. They informed me that there's a quick release bracket so I can remove the wires when I remove the saddlebag.
I just need to leave work early and bring audio wire to them. I now question if they'll need larger RCA cables.
