Hi all,

I have a 2008 Streetglide with the stock HK radio.

I ordered the RF PBR300x2 amp and the install kit that they sell with it. (for power and ground to the battery)

I plan to pull the gas tank this week and do the install. Anything else I need to have ready? I read all the stuff about setting it after it's in. Just not completely sure about the install.

Am I cutting and soldering the original speaker wires? There is no power-up wire needed to be run, right?

Any input, so that I have the right stuff on hand, would be welcome!

(the speakers are Infinity reference 6022i by the way)

 

you should get some polyfil to wrap the speakers with in the fairing. Make sure to get the layered polyfil. This can be purchased at Walmart.

The install on this amp is fairly easy in respect to wiring. You'll use your existing wires going to your fairing speakers to go to the inputs on the amp so there's no cutting into harnesses, etc. Then run your speaker outputs of the amp back up to the speakers themselves.

On the PBR series amps (well most of them anyways) there is no need to run a remote turn on wire. The amp has a voltage sensing circuit built into the high level inputs that turns the amp on. Once you get the main power run to the battery, make sure to ground at the shortest distance (I suggest grounding to the front of the triple tree there is a bolt hole there on the right side looking at it from the front). When you connect your high level inputs, if your amp does not turn on when you turn the radio on, there is a voltage selector control on the side of the amp, you may need to adjust it up or down. If the amp comes on after install, then don't fool with the voltage selector control.

 

Thanks very much! I had read that folks were running the ground back to the battery with the power wire, and I'm glad you told me I could ground to the tree. I ordered the RF "power only" install kit, which just has a short ground wire (I think) so I was worried about that!

My fairing has the thick felt pads glued to the inside already (I bought the bike used). I will do the poly around the speakers also, if in your opinion it will still be beneficial..?

Are the wires to go from the AMP to the speakers supplied? Or, what should I use if I need to buy it??

The polyfil is something totally different and will help your sound tremendously so I'd use it. You can leave the foam pads in if you want to.

You might need a couple of feet of 16ga speaker wire but honestly I think the wires on the crossovers that come with the MM651 speakers will be long enough for you.

I am not using the MM651 speakers. I have Infinity Reference 6022i speakers in my fairing already (added by the previous owner) and was planning on using them again, with the PBR300x2.

I'm guessing I should have some extra 16ga speaker wire then?

Also, I don't know about crossovers? Is that something I need for just two speakers in the fairing?

yep I do that sometimes! My bad... then yes you'll probably need a couple of feet of 16ga speaker wire to go from the amp output wiring harness to the Infinity speakers in the fairing.

I am going to install a fairing on my road king and I was wondering about running the power and ground for a sony marine head unit and a rockford fosgate PBR 300 x 4 amp.

1. Is there a ground plug on the triple tree of a road king?
2. Can I run two power wires from the battery to a terminal connector inside the fairing and then branch off one to the head unit and one to the amp? If so would what size fuse would you recommend and would I just use one fuse near the battery terminal or another between the terminal connector and the amp. The two wires would be one for constant power and the other for when the accessory or run switch is on on my bike.
3. Would 10 guage wire from the battery to the terminal connector be sufficient.

1. Yes sir. when you pull the headlamp out of the nacelle, you'll see the ground point.
2. Running an acc wire isn't necessary because you already have acc in the headlamp nacelle. It's an orange/white wire taped to the headlamp harness about 8" or so from the headlight plug. you'll still want to run your power wire for your amp back to the battery with an appropriate fuse size (whatever is on the amp itself is what you want to use at the battery)
3. Yes sir, 10ga is perfect.

Just bought this bike. Took off the fairing and it had stock head unit. Hogtunes amp and fairing and rearpod hogtunes speakers.
I want to replace everything and start fresh.
I want to use my I phone for music. I want speakers that sound real clean and when you turn it up the bass will not distort.
I figure and amp and 4 speakers and a head unit.
I would really appreciate what you think I should get, where to buy it
I want to spend under 1000.
