For anyone looking at this later...I drilled a pilot hole and using the allen screws provided with the speakers seemed more than adequate in holding the speaker down.
Got the backs done tonight...for clarification, only an inch worth of polyfil for the pods, correct? Originally, I packed those suckers but then read only an inch so took some out.
Another newb question. I picked up 7ft. of the 8 gauge wire to run from the amp to the battery along with a 30 amp fuse. Can I use any leftover for the ground wire or is there a difference between power wire and ground in its raw form?
Hoping to get the amp wired and mounted tomorrow. Adapters are supposed to be here on Thursday so will hopefully be buttoned up in time for the weekend.
Yes sir you simply drill new mounting holes and I also used the allen head screws that came with the speakers, they look better and they're more than enough to hold the speakers in place.
The pods, whether it be lowers or rear tour-pak pods need only a small amount. In the fairing itself you want the back of those speakers to look like a cocoon. :-)
The power and ground wires should be the same size wire so yes, use whatever you've got left over to make your ground connection as well.
1. Ultra, you mounted your crossovers behind the passenger pad, correct? How did you mount it? i actually used very short screws to mount them (the crossover snaps apart) but others are using heavy duty velcro.
yep.. even if I take them off later on which I doubt I will, no harm, no foul. Covered by the backrest pad, and covered internally by the tourpak liner.
I'm **** that way man.. Use Velcro or double stick tape.
Here's my next question/request for clarification: according to the wiring diagram that Ultra has posted (https://www.dropbox.com/s/mojyrk9ui8...HD%20Radio.JPG), I will take the four front speaker wires and wire them accordingly to one of the two connectors provided with the amp, correct? For the rear speaker wires, do I cut them right at the back of the 35 pin connector (using the same logic as the pods where I leave enough slack on them in case I want to replace stock speakers later) and connect them to the second connector provided with the amp? Do I need to do anything with the red wire since it isn't used for anything? So, if this is correct, I will have 8 wires needing to be connected?
